The home energy score was developed by the Department of Energy and its national laboratories to provide home owners, buyers comparable and credible information about a home's energy use. It will estimate home energy usage associated with costs and provides some cost-effective energy solutions to improve the home's energy efficiency. This report uses a 1-10 scale where a 10 represents an efficient home.

HOME ENERGY SCORE
is an easy way to see how energy efficient your home is compared to other homes.
On a straightforward 1 to 10 scale, you’ll learn how much energy your home, or a home you are considering purchasing, is expected to use, and you’ll receive suggestions for home efficiency and comfort improvements.
You start by contacting our office 1-800-568-4733 / 530-304-3082. The scheduled assessor will collect information during a home walk-through. Using the Home Energy Score Tool, our assessor scores your home on a scale of 1 to 10.
What you recieve
YOUR HOME ENERGY SCORE REPORT
Examination of the "envelope" of the home. This includes the foundation, roof, and walls. It will also include the water heater, heating and cooling systems, and attic spaces
FACTS ABOUT YOUR HOME
When considered all together this information will provide a detailed understanding of energy use in your home
RECOMMENDATIONS
To improve your home's energy performance a list of specific recommendations for your home will be produced
HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR SCORE
Reduce electricity use by switching to CFL or LED light bulbs
Reduce air drafts by caulking and sealing around doors, windows, plumbing, and electrical outlets
Upgrade old heating and air-conditioning systems and install programmable thermostats to maintain a consistent temperature
Upgrade water heating systems and use low-flow shower heads
There are also Home Upgrade Advisors that you can contact through BayREN.org or calling 866-878-6008 that could provide you further assistance with prioritizing energy upgrades for your home. They could also further assist you with the current rebates available.
